Abstract
We give an overview of a research area which grew out of the
following question: To what degree does the topological structure of a Banach space determine its linear structure? This question and related ones
led naturally to research work on several topics like e.g.
differentiability properties of Lipshitz functions on Banach
spaces, the theory of positive definite functions and
combinatorics.
